How’s it going?
Well, I’d call it a mixed bag. Understandable, I suppose, given the bizarre weather earlier in the year.
The hostas have romped away, with the exception of Empress Wu – she’s been a bit of a flop (probably in a large part due to the bombardment by the slugs and snails).
After a slow start, the tree fern is making strides, as is Musa basjoo – both should be looking great in a month or so.
The paulownia is making real strides, too, with lots of fresh growth.
Same goes for eucalyptus Gunnii – covered in iridescent young foliage.
Whereas Colocasia esculenta is starting to do its thing, Colocasia illustris hasn’t done much at all. A bit of a dud, if I’m honest.
Still, plenty of time left for it to come on, though I don’t think it will do very much this year.
So, a mixed bag.
Am I happy? Well, I’m not exactly jumping up and down, but there’s still work to be done, still time for things to improve.
It was my boy’s first birthday yesterday. A year old already – and what a year! We’re grateful to have him in our lives.
